Cutting Back to Cut Down on your Bill

Whether you are a small business or a fortune 500 company, everyone wants to see a lower energy bill each month. Here are a four ways you can make that dream come true.

Cutting back on Lighting

Limiting the lighting in your business is the first step to lowering your energy bill each month. Start off with small changes like turning off lights in areas that are not in use at the time and opening up the blinds to let in natural light. You can also install motion sensor lights in areas that have very low traffic.

Heating and Cooling Only in Certain Places

Cutting down your heating and cooling in certain places will save you a lot on your next energy bill. This includes cutting off the air conditioner or heat in places that are not occupied a lot like your storage room or even your conference room.

Unplug When Not in Use

Even when your computers are not turned on they are still sucking up your energy. Instead of leaving them plugged in overnight try unplugging them at the end of the workday. This may seem like a tedious task if you have a lot of work stations but you will see a huge difference in your energy bill. But to make the task easier, use a power strip. This way you can easily flip a switch at the end of the day.

Pre-Heating or Pre-Cooling

Try planning ahead by looking at what the weather will be each week for this will let you know on what you need to set your temperature on for the next upcoming days. Also by planning ahead you can try pre-heating or cooling your office. If you know that it will be hot and humid throughout the day you can set your air conditioner real low in the morning and turn it up in the afternoon. This way you will still have that crisp feel in the evenings without having to use energy.
